xQc Aims To Fix Kick’s Brand

As one of the biggest stars in the business, XQc is the most recent and well-known Twitch streamer to announce that they will accept a non-exclusive deal to stream on Kick.

He stated on his Twitch stream today that he intends to disprove some of the myths surrounding the new streaming startup. When Trainwrecks, a well-known streamer, revealed late last year that he was collaborating with Kick to make it a Twitch competitor, most streaming fans learned about Kick. Early on, the platform’s dubious moderation led to a lot of dubious activities, including as the streaming of copyrighted content and even sex acts. As soon as the very contentious creator Adin Ross joined the platform, their reputation took a further hit.

Ross played a few pranks soon after joining, including streaming the Super Bowl and opening up PornHub on his show. However, xQc appears to wish to change the unfavorable perception that many streaming viewers have of the platform. “Because of some events and some people, the brand was kind of tarnished in a way that some people think, ‘oh, Kick equals this, Kick equals that,’” he said. “And I genuinely want to fix that shit. I think just showing up, doing the same thing, moderating the exact same way, having the exact same experience of chat here over there and what not. Making sure that it sticks is super important to me.”

Unlike Twitch, Kick has a reputation for having light or even nonexistent moderation early in the startup’s life. It was evident that Kick’s early lack of moderation made the site a refuge for accounts that spammed inappropriate comments in chat rooms, even if many individuals perceived the absence of rule enforcement as a net plus in comparison to their perception of Twitch’s rapid ban hammer. xQc isn’t exactly known for being a tight adherent to rules, as seen by the fact that he has been banned from Twitch five times since 2020. He is curiously enough a step in the right direction in terms of finding talent with good behavior, though, as compared to some of the more outrageously contentious and inappropriate behavior of other streamers.
