Will Pokimane Call It Quits?

Imane “Pokimane” Anys, Twitch’s most popular female streamer, reveals she considered retiring this year.

Anys said during a recent broadcast that 2022 might have been her final year on Twitch if the platform’s landscape hadn’t changed dramatically. Pokimane stated; “I was debating whether I wanted to say this, but I guess I might as well. If it wasn’t for that influx of female viewers, female streamers, and just more diverse community members, whether that’s people of color or other minorities within the last year or two over Covid, I think I likely would have retired from streaming this year.”

These remarks occurred after Anys was banned from Twitch for streaming Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender on her channel for a week. Though it’s unlikely that this had any impact on her decision to leave Twitch.

She then added; “Feeling like your existence is friction in the industry that you’re in is just not fun. Like, at some point, you’re like [expletive] this [expletive], I want to have a good life. I just want to play games; it’s not that deep.”

Pokimane co-founded RTS, an esports and influencer consultancy organization, in October. So, if she decides to leave the streaming platform, she has other professional goals in mind.
