VShojo Star VTubers

Hololive reigns supreme when it comes to VTubing. On the other hand, VShojo isn’t far behind, with the English-speaking VTuber agency rising to become Twitch’s largest group. Here’s how the Amazon-owned platform was taken over by their eight stars.

VTubing isn’t going anywhere. Despite calls for it to be a fad in 2020 as multiple streamers jumped on board, VTubers aren’t going anywhere, thanks to the rise and continued rise of Hololive and others.

While Hololive and Nijisanji dominate YouTube, one group has found their niche on Twitch — and is threatening to take over the entire industry. On Amazon’s streaming platform, VShojo are the stars of the show, and their rise has been nothing short of meteoric.

Former Twitch employee Justin ‘Gunrun’ Ignacio and popular YouTuber Phillip ‘Mowtendoo’ Fortunat founded VShojo in November 2020 as a side project.

According to their website, they are founded by VTuber culture fans, and they aim to create and foster content that pushes the boundaries of VTubing and talent freedom, while maintaining their deep respect for the people and companies who helped pave the way.

Ironmouse, Nyanners, and Projekt Melody — then three of the biggest names in English VTubing despite being independent — were originally a group of seven, but the group has since grown by one, with Veibae joining in April 2021.

The group now has over 3.5 million YouTube subscribers and the same number of Twitch followers. They’ve collaborated with Japanese VTubers like Kizuna AI, as well as a handful of Hololive and Nijisanji idols, and are now household names not just in the English VTubing community, but worldwide.

The most significant distinction between VShojo and other VTuber groups is the location of their streams. VShojo has carved out a niche on Twitch, where VTubers typically dominate the charts.

They were able to catapult into stardom through collabs and become the face of the VTubing community on Amazon’s platform because all of their talent are English speakers — and had previously established fan bases on the platform.

In comparison to other VTuber groups, VShojo’s stars have a lot of freedom. Instead of being forced to use similar model styles, the VShojo idols have a variety of models to choose from and can host their own show.
