TwitchCon Returns After 3 Years

TwitchCon will return after a nearly three-year hiatus, with events in Amsterdam and San Diego.

When the covid pandemic halted in-person activities in many parts of the world, much was made of the hundreds (if not thousands) of esport events that were undoubtedly cancelled.

Some equally important gaming events, such as TwitchCon, the yearly celebration of all things video games and streaming, received less attention.

The most recent event was TwitchCon San Diego in 2019, which took place about two years ago, however there is now some good news for those who missed out on these events.

Twitch has announced that two TwitchCon events will be held next year, with TwitchCon Amsterdam taking place in July 2022 and TwitchCon San Diego in October of the same year.

That implies that by the time the San Diego events take place, it will have been more than three years since the event’s original location was allowed to host it.

Twitch announced in a blog post that “last year we welcomed our 50,000th Partner and recruited 8,550 new Partners, as well as 548,000 Affiliates, bringing the total number of Affiliates on Twitch to more than 1.2 million.” “We also saw the most significant increase in viewership in Twitch’s history. Because there have been so many new artists, watchers, and moderators joining Twitch during this pandemic, many have yet to meet the communities they’ve built or been welcomed into.”

Twitch did dampen the excitement by admitting that the plans for both events are “fluid,” but with the world continuing to open up, you’d think the lengthy wait would be ended.

TwitchCon is an annual multi-day event that has been hosted since 2015. It has previously taken place in San Diego, and the canceled event in 2020 was slated to do so as well. The inaugural European event took place in Berlin in 2019.
