Twitch Channel is Attacked by Hate Raids

It looks like the problem with the hate raids is getting even worse as the official gaming channel of Twitch has recently been attacked by the so-called hate raids.

‘Hate raids’ are organized attacks on marginalized Twitch streamers in which bot accounts flood their chat with repeated slurs, sometimes incorporating Nazi imagery or real-life details about the target.

Earlier this month, the hashtag #TwitchDoBetter has become trending on Twitter. Twitch streamer ‘RekItRaven‘ was the one who began the hashtag to draw attention to the platform’s lack of response to hate raids. Other big name streamers on the platform including Hasan and Trihex have also stated that they wanted a stronger response from the company.

Now, on a recent twitter post, posted by a twitter user that goes by the name PhoenixYani, it turns out, Twitch’s own channel was now attacked, bringing the problem right to their own front door. On the photo, it can be seen that Twitch Gaming was hosting the Xbox Games Showcase, which shows off Xbox’s newest titles when the hate raid messages came flowing into the chat. PhoenixYani captioned her post stating; “not me looking in on twitch gaming and they were being hate raided. Maybe they’ll do something now”.

Twitch hasn’t yet responded to the hate raid. Many streamers have been planning to essentially go on strike on September 1st, and asking viewers to boycott Twitch on the same day. So far the #ADayOffTwitch tweet has garnered plenty of attention with streamers from across the globe echoing the message.
