Tommyinnit: YouTube is “Lame”

TommyInnit has become one of YouTube’s most successful content creators, however it seems like the platform’s current state annoys him, as he recently claims during Logan Paul’s Impaulsive show.

The YouTube algorithm is the platform’s beating heart and brain, and many people are startled to realize that there is a formula for making a video become viral. TommyInnit has over 10 million YouTube subscribers, and he’s just one of many who have cracked the code, however it seems that he doesn’t like the current algorithm, which favors fast-paced TikTok-style videos. On the recent Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast, TommyInnit stated that he isn’t a fan of the present system because it forces producers to quit trying to make art, lowering the quality of video on YouTube in general.

The topic about the YouTube algorithm began when Logan stated; “I believe YouTube will once again reach a place of authenticity, I think people will be falling for that because right now content is weird.” As a result of this conversation, Tommyinnit went on a rant about the platform’s current status stating; The problem with YouTube, and it’s not a problem, I feel like it’s a video game. No matter what the subject, whether you’re talking about some human rights issues, you’ll have dubstep over it to increase retention, or it’s the lightning in the first frame and it’s about the metrics being higher, it’s not about the art and the content being better. I think especially with the rise of TikTok, let’s have everything fast-paced and subtitles everywhere possible.”

He then continued saying; “YouTube at the moment is so weirdly paced, and it’s like a meta, and it’s cool and it’s fine, but when it goes on for a year, everyone stops trying to make art, it’s about making that, and that’s why it’s lame at the moment.”

Recently, YouTube Shorts, YouTube’s take on short-form video, has taken over the platform, with the algorithm greatly favoring that material in everyone’s recommended feeds, compelling producers to transition to that content to stay relevant. With this, TommyInnit is definitely not a lover of short-form material, as he has stated that he dislikes the clip and short channels that practically every content provider produces.
