Timothy “TimTheTatman” Betar, who has played Call of Duty games for over ten years, thinks that players’ styles have changed over time—or, more accurately, de-changed.

He believes that players care more about making highlight reel moments and sharing them on social media than they do about mindlessly plunging into the action and having fun. In Modern Warfare 2, the 32-year-old is detecting it more than ever. He believes Twitch and YouTube stars are to responsible for how people camp out to maintain streaks. On October 29th, he commented on a live, “Unfortunately bro, the way you play Call of Duty has changed. Like, what I’m doing right now is kind of like how you have to play this. You’ve got to camp. It’s not like it used to be.”

Run-and-gun play was customary in the past. It was a quick, fluid strategy that kept the action moving. Players are still able to pull it off, but they are extremely rare. TimTheTatman described it as a drastic change. “Honestly, maybe it’s the content creators’ fault. People are going for clips. They’re trying to make a name for themselves versus when we were all younger, we were just playing to have fun. People want to fucking get clips and shit.”

However, that hasn’t prevented him from enjoying the newest Call of Duty game. Despite this, he kept popping off throughout the stream. He called the change in playstyle “crazy” and said he isn’t sure about it. The inclusion of skill-based matchmaking, which he claims is dying off competitive shooters in general, is his biggest peeve, though.
