Gaming fans all over the world tune in to YouTube and Twitch streams to learn about the intricacies of a game or to keep up with the latest news. As a result, content creators utilize these platforms. Unlike the latter, which is designed for core gaming, the former allows content creators to experiment with their work.
Gagandeep “Sikhwarrior” Singh is a YouTuber who produces a wide range of video games, from Apex Legends to God of War, and has over 100,000 subscribers. Sikhwarrior talks about his journey as a content creator, his love for FPS games, and more with Debolina Banerjee of Sportskeed Esports.
Q. Can you tell us a little about the origins of “Sikhwarrior” and how the idea for a YouTube channel came to be?
Sikhwarrior: I first started playing multiplayer games in 2009-2010. The first game I ever played was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. That inspired me to pursue a career in the gaming industry.
So, regardless of the game, I continued to grind. In 2017, I began streaming on Twitch, but due to a lack of a stable internet connection and a computer, it did not go well. I didn’t give up hope, though, and began streaming on YouTube.
Q. In India, gaming as a profession is still frowned upon. Were your parents encouraging when you decided to pursue it as a career?
Sikhwarrior: Back when gaming was less popular, my parents thought I was wasting my time. It all comes down to consistency, though. I was able to strike a balance between playing and dealing with real-life situations. My parents eventually grasped the revenue-generating concept of gaming and valued it as a profession.
Q. The desire to play video games usually begins at a young age. What are some of the first games you remember playing?
Mario, Contra, Tetris, Counter-Strike: Source, and Counter-Strike 1.6 are some of the games I remember playing as a kid.
Q. What’s it like to work full-time as a content creator? How much time do you have on average to create a video for your “warriors?”
Sikhwarrior: My daily routine consists of communicating with my editors, creating social media content (Instagram and Facebook), uploading videos, and live streaming. I spend 12 to 14 hours per week creating content for my YouTube channel.
Q. What do you like to do when you’re not immersed in the world of gaming? What are some of your interests?
Sikhwarrior: I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also travel to various locations. Aside from that, I’m a serious foodie. I enjoy experimenting with different cuisines. Since I recently began vlogging, I keep track of my adventures whenever I travel.
Q. Your YouTube channel has a wide range of games, from Horizon Zero Dawn to Battlefield 2042. What is your favorite video game genre?
Sikhwarrior: FPS (First Person Shooter) games are my favorite. Whether it’s Apex Legends or Call of Duty: Warzone, I always try to be the best at whatever game I’m playing.
Q. Given that you play Call of Duty: Warzone and Valorant, what are your thoughts on the growing popularity of battle royale gaming in India?
Sikhwarrior: It’s no surprise that Indian gamers enjoy this genre. When compared to other game types, battle royale is a one-of-a-kind experience. These games are entertaining to both play and watch. Anyone who engages with it gets an adrenaline rush due to its thrilling nature. India has a sizable and devoted gaming community. Even if you aren’t playing, simply watching the games increases engagement, making the genre more popular.
Q. Your YouTube channel has over 31 million views. How do you intend to expand your YouTube channel? In the future, what kinds of videos can your viewers expect from you?
Sikhwarrior: In the future, there will be a lot of unexpected content. Our mission is to be a gamer’s final destination.
I enjoy making educational videos for my viewers about gaming in general. Playthroughs, walkthroughs, and tutorials were all planned and uploaded by my team.
Q. You’re a part of the Alpha Zegus marketing agency. What are the advantages of being a part of this organization? What role does an agency play in a streamer’s popularity?
Alpha Zegus has played a critical role in brand associations, according to Sikhwarrior. I’m confident that whatever they have planned for my channel is done with the goal of expanding it. I don’t have to look for projects, talk to brands, or collaborate because they take care of everything.
The primary goal of a gamer/streamer is to be the best at gaming and streaming. Having a marketing agency on their side can help them grow exponentially.
Q. What advice would you give to aspiring gamers who want to pursue a career in streaming or content creation?
Sikhwarrior: If you’re a budding gamer, you should always have a financial safety net in place until you can establish a steady income. Make sure that gaming does not interfere with your personal or academic life. Maintain consistency by balancing things out. Above all, one should strive to be the best in their field. Pursue perfection.
