Streamers Call Out Streamlabs

Streamlabs is one of the most popular live streaming software and tools, however the platform has been criticized by a number of other software and hardware companies, as well as streamers who represent and utilize the platform for their jobs, such as Pokimane and Hasan.

Following the release of Streamlabs Studio, a new web-based broadcasting studio created in cooperation with Twitch that intends to give users of Xbox consoles greater broadcasting customisation and possibilities, an existing cloud-based creative suite raised some concerns. Lightstream already provided console streamers with a cloud-based means to personalize and optimize their streams using a mobile browser, which is compatible with Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook on both Xbox and PlayStation. When Streamlabs unveiled its new project, the pre-existing platform pointed out that Streamlabs Studio’s promotional images and messaging was remarkably identical to its own.

This blatant case of plagiarism goes beyond the product language being the same, certain subjects being changed, and all of the slightly different artwork being formatted in the same way. Everything down to the user experience has reportedly been duplicated, according to Stu Grubbs, the CEO and co-founder of Lighstream and its analytics division Rainmaker.

Brandon “iamBrandon” Stennis, a Twitch streamer and former Lightstream employee, also pointed out that the evaluations in the graphic are from Lightstream’s website, since he was the one who got permission to use them from the original posters. Lightstream wasn’t the only one involved. Streamlabs has copied something from both the Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) team and the streaming hardware manufacturer Elgato. Streamlabs approached the community team about using the OBS name when creating Streamlabs OBS, according to the community team.

Streamlabs used the OBS name anyhow, despite the fact that their request was denied, and filed a trademark for it. This has caused several problems and misunderstandings among users of both platforms and companies who were unaware that the two entities were not affiliated.

Elgato’s retort was a little more laid-back. In reaction to Lightstream’s article implying that the Streamlabs Deck mobile app was a carbon copy of the digital counterpart of its Stream Deck product, the firm posted a meme.

Following the disagreement with other streaming software and hardware companies, Streamlabs had numerous large streamers, led by Pokimane, speak out against the situation. Streamlabs has Pokimane as a partnered streamer, and the platform uses her image and standing to market the product on the company’s home page. In response to OBS’ thread, Pokimane stated that Streamlabs did not handle the “entire thread of issues.” she would ask them to remove her face from the platform and explore other options for her streaming services, such as donations.

Hasan shared those concerns, stating that until the faults are resolved promptly, he will never use Streamlabs again.
