Streamer Reydempto Harassed

Twitch streamer “reydempto” was scolded for his race by an apparent intoxicated stranger while he was broadcasting on the street.

On Twitch, IRL streams are a popular genre where broadcasters share their daily life and international trips with viewers in real time. However, some of these broadcasts can show uncomfortable or even dangerous situations, like when the time travel streamer Jinny’s phone was taken from her in the middle of a stream by a speeding motorcycle. 

Another awkward situation was captured on camera while streamer “Reydempto” was walking around the streets of Amsterdam at night. Rey was contacted by a woman who appeared to be under the effects of alcohol during his evening adventure. She remarked, perhaps in response to something Rey had said, “It’s so f*ckin’ funny, isn’t it?”

Rey retorted, moving the camera to reveal the woman’s bright orange hat, saying “Your hat’s funny. Why don’t you wear it?” After that, the woman launched into an attack on Rey’s race, asking, “[w]hy don’t you wear it? You’re so white. You’re so white. Like, you know how much you have benefited from being white?” Rey answered. “Yeah.”

Their conversation was interrupted by another woman who urged Rey against streaming the altercation. “Sorry, you cannot film her on this, at all,” the other woman said. “It is not acceptable.” 

Rey said; “Then you should walk away, because I was just walking down the street and she stopped me,”

Out of view of the camera, the first woman said, “Are you from a third-world country?”

Rey clarified in a tweet reply that the interaction lasted considerably longer than the little portion of his live that has gone popular online, even if the video finishes shortly after. On Twitter, he continued to discuss the incident, writing, “My best guess is she was drunk and just got done having a bad interaction with someone else before running into my girlfriend and I. Still steaming on that argument, she set her sights on me.”

This is far not the first terrible experience a traveling streamer has had; late last year, ExtraEmily was the recipient of a racist remark during a live stream that disgusted viewers.
