Streamer OfficialDuckStudios Banned

Despite the fact that amateur stunts are nothing new in the worlds of Twitch and YouTube, one streamer was banned after attempting a crossbow trick that ultimately resulted in an injury to one of the streamer’s crew.

CodeMiko and TheSushiDragon are two streamers who have received criticism from the platform in the past for some of their on-stream antics, including the use of shock collars to encourage viewer involvement. Due of the risk it put the streamer’s crew in before the incident occurred, it appears that this most recent prank has offended several online viewers.

Reice Mitchell, better known as OfficialDuckStudios, was the Twitch user in question. He and his two housemates make comedic material that ranges from gameplay videos to parodies of other content creators.

ODS, or OfficialDuckStudios, launched on YouTube in 2012 and during the following ten years amassed over 1.14 million subscribers while posting approximately 400 videos. Later, ODS would extend into Twitch to create more material, and the channel amassed over 59,000 followers to augment the YouTube viewership. Mitchell and his pals recently decided to “try out” a crossbow one of them previously bought using a cardboard box propped up against a door during a drinking broadcast on Twitch. The group then made the decision to see whether the crossbow could actually pass through the door. They had Joey, the camera operator, take a recording from the opposite side of the door to see if the arrow succeeded in doing so. In addition to passing through the door, the arrow also wounded Joey in the stomach, causing him to appear to drop the camera while the others looked over him before laughing.

Shortly after the accident, Twitch banned ODS, and considering the seriousness of the tragedy, video that appeared on Reddit, Twitter, and YouTube continue to be removed. The Livestream Fail subreddit, where the ban was widely criticized by other users, swiftly posted some clips and news of the ban.

Users agreed that Mitchell and everyone else watching the webcast acted very carelessly and that Joey was lucky to escape with even a slight injury—given how powerful the crossbow appeared to be—rather than losing his life.

Although most cases have been chance mishaps during IRL streams while the claimed streamer is “out and about,” accidents have occured during Twitch streams before. One such streamer, Skill Specs, broke their collar bone after colliding with their bike during what was supposed to be one of their final streams of 2022.

Given the seriousness of the incident as Twitch’s attempt to “send a message” to other streamers, it would not be shocking if the ban on ODS lasts for a while.
