‘Simp’ Rule Backfires

Twitch COO Sarah Clemens explained that words like ‘simp’, ‘virgin’, and ‘incel’ are ban-worthy because they can be used as an insult, and these “derogatory statements” are aimed at another person’s sexual preference.

Instead of complying to the new policy, twitch users did the opposite and used the term more often. The use of the slang words simp and incel recently became the most used words over these past few days, and according to Stream Hatchet, the words have doubled in usage even after Twitch announced the terms of service update.

The amount of times that these words were used climbed by 97% since Twitch announced the new policy.

Simp is a modern term for “overly nice guy” and it is an act of doing favors. Since the day that Twitch announced their new policy their users seem to have dismissed the new rules and did the opposite thing, just to prove a point that there’s nothing wrong about the word.

Twitch’s only intention was to protect their users from potential abuse.
