Shroud – “Unite!”

The DMCA scandal has been a controversy on Twitch recently because of the striking of streamers and having their channels banned due to copyright music being used in their VOD’s and clips. It has resulted into a widespread panic and therefore most of the Twitch streamers, including the most popular and notable streamers have been deleting all of their VOD’s and clips in order to avoid getting banned from the platform forever.

During one of the recent streams of Michael Grzesiek aka Shroud, shared his personal thoughts regarding this issue. He said that streamers in effect let Twitch win by deleting their content and not taking a collective stand against the platform instead. Shroud further explained that even getting licenses from copyright owners is not enough as far as the present situation is concerned. He said that Twitch would have been forced to pay off the record labels who own the copyrights had those notable Twitch streamers been banned because of the DMCA scandal.

He stated during his live broadcast; “That brings me to the final point that I brought up earlier, you know what I am saying? If we as streamers took a united front and we didn’t just make these rational f***ing decisions and just start deleting shit, we actually could have won, but now we have hurt ourselves. So that sucks, but it is what it is. We folded”.

This means that if those streamers had refused to delete their VOD’s and clips, they could have won against Twitch and their VOD’s and clips wouldn’t have been under threat because of the DMCA issue.
