Several Streamers React To Pokimane’s Twitch Ban

Imane “Pokimane” Anys was banned from streaming the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which stunned both streamers and viewers.

While the ban itself was not unexpected, the fact that Pokimane was the first to be hit comes as a shock, given the number of creators who have streamed the same piece of media or other copyrighted media in recent weeks.

In the midst of the commotion, streamer Ben “Cohh Carnage” Cassell called out Twitch. He stated, “But Twitch sitting there and just watching while all this happens is also pretty frustrating. Do something about this.”

Imane “Pokimane” Anys was given an immediate 48-hour suspension for streaming copyrighted media on stream following a stream when she watched the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Later, the streamer joked that the “fire nation attacked,” a reference to a classic line from the show. She then stated that she will be back in 48 hours and that she will be doing a 12-hour stream when she returns.

Many of her friends, including Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang, who had streamed the same performance himself a few weeks previously, chimed in to joke about the issue after hearing about her ban.  Despite the fact that he had not erased his Twitch VODs, he was able to avoid suspension. He joked about doing the same, presumably to avoid unwanted attention from copyright holders, as he has now broadcast the complete Naruto series.

Nick Polom tweeted that “there is no Avatar on Twitch dot tv,” a reference to the show’s iconic line “there is no war in Ba Sing Se,” indicating that the aforementioned claim is incorrect.

While many people found the scenario amusing, several Twitch streamers started a far more serious discussion about streaming DMCA-protected content. Ben “Cohh Carnage” Cassell was one of many who voiced his concerns about the whole thing, even receiving a reaction from a Twitch staff member who told him and others that it would all come crashing down eventually.
