Pokimane’s Comments About Hot Tub Meta

Popular Twitch Streamer Imane Anys recently made a comment about Hot Tub streamers and said that people shouldn’t criticize women for making hot tub streams but rather criticize the streaming platform Twitch for having unclear rules regarding their suggestive content.

Pokimane shared comments on the ongoing hot tub meta controversy in Twitch and called out Twitch for bandly handling the situation and their unclear and exploitable rules.

Hot tub streams are not new on Twitch. It originally began 2 years ago but it is now popular because many are doing it now and they’ve only recently started to bring in both criticism on a mass level and lots of attention.

Twitch recently updated their guidelines saying that wearing swimwears is allowed when worn at beaches, pools and inside hot tubs but if you are streaming during regular gaming sessions, that’s what they aren’t allowing.

The new updated rules of Twitch simply tackles streams where swimwears would be contextually normalized.

Many argued and said that streaming platform Twitch is no longer a gaming site. Many popular streamers also shared their insights and opinion about Twitch’s biggest controversy of 2021.

Popular streamers such as xQc, Valkyrae and Pokimane shared their thoughts. xQc criticized hot tub streams and said that he’s unimpressed. While Valkyrae doesn’t see what the big deal is and said that women should be able to consensually monetize their own bodies without judgements.

Pokimane’s thought and opinion about the new meta falls somewhere in between the xQc and Valkyrae’s opinion. She explained during her recent stream saying that the issue about hot tub streams is partially because some viewers generalize all female streamers and always saying to them what they should or not should dress a certain way during streams. Instead, blame and look at Twitch because they are the main reason behind the loophole.

This isn’t the first time that a Twitch streamer called out the streaming platform for their ambiguous terms of service. In fact, many criticized them for banning the former popular Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect last year when other streamers like Alinity have been accused of doing much worse on her stream.

Many said that the main problem of the new meta is hot it affects underage viewers. Pokimane says that Twitch finds some way to categorize content that isn’t bannable and contents that aren’t appropriate for all ages.

One of her viewers said in her chat that they are often recommended to watch hot tub streams because they watch female streamers and the reason that they are often watching and enjoying Just Chatting category, and that highlights the issue of twitch current system.

Twitch already responded to the issue and assured their users that they are carefully and closely monitoring any hot tub steams content but Pokimane still thinks and believes that they still need to step in and make action and recognize what content is suggestive then do something about it instead of just banning streamers.
