PewDiePie Faces Backlash

Popular YouTuber and Twitch Streamer Felix Kjellberg also known as PewDiePie jumped on the latest trend, Vtube, and replaced his real self with a digital avatar. The Twitch community mostly welcomed the change but the Vtuber’s subculture bashed him for doing it and it sparked controversy.

VTubing is a virtual version of real people and it has become a trend over these past few years with many famous YouTubers and Twitch Streamers following suit. Pokimane also creates her own digital avatar.

PewDiePie’s decision of making his own digital avatar and to do VTubing sparked controversy from the VTube community. Many argued that by PewDiePie starting one it will result with some small VTuber creators having a negative impact. PewDiePie’s audience could be edgy and be hateful towards others.

The VTuber community was concerned by PewDiePie’s fanbase and said that they were toxic and didn’t understand the culture of VTuber. Some argued that it was unfair for PewDiePie and said that they must use this as an advantage because one of the largest content creators is bringing attention to their community and it will bring more eyes and acceptance.

Many are arguing about it and many are also trying to be positive. Some also used the hashtag #VTuberUprising but a twitter account raised its concern and said that the hashtag mustn’t be used because it is only inciting hate against anyone and the hashtag itself mustn’t be used to call out PewDiePie. The user encourages it’s users to celebrate the new eyes towards VTubers and celebrates that Terry Crews also acknowledges VTubers.

PewDiePie plans on using an avatar for all his future videos. We are still not sure, but as of now, many are welcoming him and being supportive by his decision of making one.
