Morgan Freeman Narration

Over the last few years, Dave Chappelle released five new specials, the sixth of which, “The Closer,” will be released on October 5th. And you get Morgan Freeman to help promote it at the end of such an impressive body of work.

Dave Chappelle is seen driving down the road past some cornfields in the trailer for The Closer. Morgan Freeman’s narration plays in the background while he drives. Freeman is one of our time’s great narrators, so it’s moving to hear him break down everything that must be on Chappelle’s mind as he prepares for his final special.

He introduces himself with a simple “This is Dave.” He makes a living by telling jokes. It’s meditative to drive down these country roads. This is when Chappelle slams on the brakes with a revenge.

Because stand-up trailers are usually just clipped jokes shown out of context, they’re difficult to pull off. You have to do something else if you don’t want to give away jokes before the show because you tipped your hand to the material.

Netflix has made a significant impact in the world of stand-up comedy, particularly when it comes to securing high – profile names like Dave Chappelle and Jerry Seinfeld, as well as reruns of their iconic namesake shows.

When it comes to comedy, Chappelle is at the top of his game. Three of his five Netflix specials received Emmy nominations. His hosting gigs on Saturday Night Live were a huge success. To get his show back on streaming services, he worked out a high-profile dispute with Comedy Central. A documentary about his summer shows is currently screening at film festivals, and a wider release is almost certainly on the way.

This special marks the end of a chapter, but it is far from the end of what Chappelle has to say. The fifth season of “The Closer” will premiere on October 5th.
