Maya Higa Claims She May Have Been Roofied

Twitch streamer Maya Higa recently explains why she thinks she was roofied at the recent Twitch Rivals competition in Las Vegas.

This year conventions and events have started to reopen, and people have been taking full advantage of the opportunity to socialize in person once more. While TwitchCon will not be held in person until 2022, the Twitch Rivals competition will host over 100 events this year and while being around other people may be safer now that there is a COVID-19 vaccine, there are still risks, as Twitch streamer Maya discovered this past weekend.

Twitch Rivals is a competition in which popular streamers compete in some of the platform’s most popular games. The Ultimate Challenge, which took place in Las Vegas on November 4 and 5, is one of these events that takes place all over the world. The competition featured 16 teams of two streamers competing in real-world events such as mini golf and an obstacle course, as well as digital games. Maya, who usually does IRL Twitch streams, teamed up with QTCinderella and came in fifth place in the competition.

Maya did a “just chatting” stream after returning from the Twitch Rivals event in Las Vegas, during which she revealed that she believed she had been roofied one night and that some weird sh*t happened, and continued saying that it wasn’t alcohol-related. She went on to say that she had been roofied once in college and thus recognized the signs and strange sensations that can accompany it.

Maya frequently mentioned the sensation that time was passing her by, implying that she was awake the entire time but that there were moments when she felt as if time was passing her by and for which she had no memory and made it clear that it is not a problem because she know nothing bad happened because she was with QT and Myth.

She also mentioned later in the stream that she had been getting a strange vibe from a guy that night and she was uneasy because he had asked if he could give her a ride home. So she enlisted the help of fellow Twitch streamer Myth to keep the strange man at bay. The guy kept asking where she was when she passed out in the bathroom later.

This doesn’t rule out the possibility that this unknown person put a roofie in her drink, but it does raise red flags. Maya was fortunate in that nothing bad happened to her that night; however, whoever roofied her got away with it and could do it again to a girl who doesn’t have friends looking out for her.

This isn’t the first time a Twitch streamer has been robbed while on the platform. Streamer KTLODO tweeted in September 2019 that she was roofied while attending TwitchCon in San Diego. KTLODO had a blood test done, and the toxin report revealed that she had traces of benzodiazepines in her system, which are a class of psychoactive drugs that reduce brain activity.

Although Rohypnol, also known as roofies, is a benzodiazepine, other medications in this class are actually more commonly used as tranquilizers for illegal purposes than Rohypnol. Hopefully, no other Twitch streamers will face similar problems.
