John Gibson Steps Down As Tripwire Interactive CEO

Tripwire Interactive has announced that CEO John Gibson has “stepped down” from his position following a comment John Gibson made supporting a controversial anti-abortion law that passed in Texas.

Tripwire Interactive issued a statement today last September 7th that it will distance itself from Gibson’s comments and announce that he has been replaced by Alan Wilson, who will serve as interim CEO. Tripwire responded to Gibson’s viewpoints by saying that John Gibson’s comments are his own personal opinions and do not reflect those of Tripwire Interactive as a company, John Gibson’s remarks went against the values of the entire company’s team, partners, and a large portion of our broader community.

The statement goes on to say that Tripwire’s leadership is “deeply sorry” and committed to “swift action,” and that John Gibson has stepped down as CEO “effective immediately.”

Alan Wilson, Tripwire’s interim successor, has been with the company since its inception in 2005 and will work to “address concerns” raised by employees and partners over the last day.

This will most likely include contacting Shipwright Studios, which worked with Tripwire on Chivalry 2 and Maneater, after the studio decided to cancel all existing contracts “effective immediately” as a result of Gibson’s stance. CohhCarnage, a Twitch streamer with over 1.4 million followers, has announced that he will boycott Tripwire as a result of the controversy.

Tripwire will hold a company-wide meeting to create an “open dialogue with Tripwire leadership and all employees,” according to the company.
