IWillDominate’s Opinion of League Worlds Final

Christian ‘IWillDominate’ Rivera claimed on ‘The Jungle’ that he didn’t want to witness a 3-0 series in the Worlds 2021 grand final because it would showcase how horrible the tournament’s title deciders had been in recent years.

All eyes are on Iceland as the League of Legends World Championship title showdown between DWG KIA and EDward Gaming approaches. It’s going to be a tremendous final, whether Damwon makes it two in a row or EDward Gaming stakes a claim on the world stage for the LPL.

But, League of Legends icon IWillDominate isn’t looking for a one-sided match. The retired player turned streamer expressed his opposition to a 3-0 sweep on ‘The Jungle,’ the Dexerto-produced Worlds show he co-hosts with Christopher ‘MonteCristo’ Mykles and Daniel ‘dGon’ Gonzales.

He asks his co-hosts; “I hope we get something interesting because if it’s another 3-0, how bad are Worlds finals?”

T1, then SK Telecom 1, defeated Samsung Galaxy 3-2 in the only Worlds final in which all five games were played. Apart from the first-ever Worlds final, which was played in a best-of-three format in 2011, 2016 was the first year in which the Worlds final went the distance.

IWD then continued; “It shows to me that the format is not getting the best teams to the actual final of the tournament”.

As a result, co-host MonteCristo referred to the Worlds format as “garbage.”

IWD even went so far as to point out how irrelevant the Worlds format is, particularly in terms of how teams are placed and seeded. He went on to say; “Second through eighth [ranked teams in the world] is f*cked. If you want to go deeper, there have been times when the Worlds final has come out of a group,”

This has only happened once before, in 2018, but given China’s and Korea’s recent dominance, it is quite likely to happen again. If T1 had defeated Damwon in the semifinals, it would have happened in 2021.

If the 2021 Worlds final follows the path of recent years, it will undoubtedly spark arguments about the tournament’s competitiveness and whether the format needs to be revised.
