Magic: The Gathering has begun to commemorate the release of many new sets with a high-quality narrative cinematic over the last two years or so (watch every past Magic trailer here). Typically, these trailers introduce one or two key characters or settings that will play a significant role in the lore and overall story of each set.

Although not every set receives a trailer, fans of Innistrad will be pleased to learn that Midnight Hunt has been included. The game’s pre-release events are now available digitally and in select game stores around the world, and Magic: The Gathering is commemorating the occasion with the release of an eerie and moody trailer.

The trailer depicts a young boy forced to work in an orchard under the supervision of an abusive human. As fog and mist shroud the farmlands and packs of wild werewolves stalk around outside the walls, Innistrad’s gothic aesthetic is on full display.

Innistrad is unquestionably one of the darkest planes in the multiverse, both in terms of story and aesthetic, and Midnight Hunt does not appear to lighten the mood in any way compared to previous visits. While the fall set dominates the Limited and Standard formats, Innistrad is sticking to its horror roots, so players should have plenty of dark and spooky cards to collect and play over the next few months.
