Hasan Is Unbanned From Twitch

Popular Twitch streamer was unbanned recently after a week-long disciplinary ban due to the streamer’s use of the contentious term “cracker” to characterize white people. On Tuesday at 11 a.m. PT, Hasan will resume streaming on the platform.

Hasan was suspended for one week after taking time out of his stream last weekend to defend the use of the term “cracker” after some of his moderators were apparently penalized for using it. Hasan stated that the term, which relates to white slave masters whipping black slaves, is not a slur because it is used to express frustration by powerless, historically disadvantaged people. Twitch, on the other hand, called the word a “hateful slur” and prohibited it under its hateful conduct policy. Vaush and other streamers were apparently banned from the platform for using the term.

Hasan’s ban sparked a heated debate on Twitch, with some defending Hasan’s position and claiming that Twitch is promoting white identity politics by treating the term as equally offensive as the N-word, while others, such as xQc and TrainWreck, suggested that the term is inappropriate and that it is not acceptable to insult someone based on their skin color, even if they are white.

Hasan and his close associates, for their part, have spent the previous week debating whether or not they are “anti-white racists.”

Hasan participated in many YouTube broadcasts despite being unable to go live on his own channel, including creating gingerbread houses on Ludwig Ahgren’s stream and hosting his hot tub stream with Amouranth during the H3H3 Productions “Left Overs” show last Friday.

During his concert with H3H3’s Ethan Klein, he made several jokes about the term cracker, and the word cracker was scattered throughout the set in Friends font.

Now, Hasan will be allowed to return to his own channel. He is far from sorry for his use of the term and stands by his defense, judging by the meme he released with his unbanning, which featured his face on a pile of Ritz crackers, but it is likely he will still avoid using it on stream.
