Halo Infinite Aim Assist

Players have discovered how Halo Infinite’s aim help could cause troubles when it launches, thanks to some setting fiddling.

With Halo Infinite’s upcoming release on December 8th, fans have had their first taste of what the free-to-play multiplayer aspect of the FPS would be like thanks to recent test previews.

A content producer has unwittingly exposed how flawed Halo Infinite’s aim help can be when dabbling in matches with both bots and real-life people (though you could argue some of your teammates are still bots).

During one of his most recent shows, Twitch streamer Jeff Sheney was AFK for a few seconds while playing against AI opponents. Those who tuned in soon noticed how quickly the aim helped kick in, effortlessly tracking the attackers’ heads.

TSM’s Eric “Snip3down” Wrona, a pro Apex and former Halo competitor, released a video that went viral, with over 180k views as of this writing.

Fans wondered if it was a glitch, and tried to duplicate it by tweaking their own settings, with many dismissing it as fake because the inputs shown in the video are for mouse and keyboard, not controller.

AtlasGV, a user, was the one who finally cracked the code. As it turns out, Halo Infinite recognizes both controller and mouse and keyboard inputs at the same time, so if you set the deadzone of the stick to 0, the game will almost immediately assume you’re playing on a controller, even if you’re using a mouse and keyboard, and the aim assist will activate.

For those unfamiliar with the term, Deadzone refers to how far a player must move the controller stick for an input to register. The lower the value, the simpler it is for a game to detect movement; hence, if it is set to 0, players will potentially not need to move the sticks at all because the natural drift from worn-out controllers will do the job for them.

Those hoping to profit from this find will be disappointed, as content producer Mint Blitz revealed that this is a bug that 343 Industries is actively attempting to remedy.

“This is due to the fact that both controller stick drift and KBM are active at the same time, with dead zones set to zero. Because both are active, you get a high aim assist value that disappears immediately you move again “He clarified the situation on Twitter.

Hopefully, the developers can quickly resolve these and other aim assist difficulties, given they originally stated that Halo esports will be cross-input.
