Gootecks Angry at Twitch

The former face behind the one of the most popular Twitch emote PogChamp, Ryan Gutierrez aka Gootecks has expressed that he is still upset at twitch streaming platform for removing his face into the emote.

The PogChamp is an emote used on the streaming platform Twitch, intended to express excitement, joy or shock. The former face behind the popular emote was the streamer Gootecks making a surprised or shocked expression and this expression originates from a video uploaded to YouTube on November 26, 2010.

Earlier this year, the twitch streaming platform has decided to remove Gootecks as the face of the emote as Twitch deemed that Gootecks was encouraging further violence after he asked his fans on Twitter if there would be “civil unrest for the woman who was executed inside the Capitol” after the day’s controversial events unfolded.

Eventually, Gootecks wasn’t the face of PogChamp and has since become KomodoHype following a site-wide poll.

During an August 23rd podcast called “Local Landing” Gootecks discussed it explaining how Twitch allegedly never even asked him for permission to use his face as a global emote to begin with.

Here’s what he said; “There was a very long law… it never escalated to a lawsuit, but I’m no stranger to them. I knew them. So, they used my face for years. Literally years, until our lawyers worked out a deal. Within hours of me posting this spicy tweet on Twitter, Twitch makes this statement on Twitter about how PogChamp is no longer going to be what pops up in chat.”

Gootecks then further explained that his comments weren’t directed at Twitch, had nothing to do with gaming, and didn’t even happen on their platform. He also took issue with Twitch claiming that he was encouraging violence with his tweet stating; “Only a violent person would read what I said and think that!” While Gootecks disagrees with how the situation was handled, he did end up getting paid when all was said and done, but he didn’t elaborate on how much the licensing deal with Twitch was actually worth.
