God of War 2018 is widely considered as one of the best games of its generation, as seen by its Metacritic score of 94 and commercial success. It isn’t, however, a perfect game. Its hub world, for example, is badly designed. Meanwhile, it lacked enemy variety, which was a source of debate when it was first published.

For the time being, it’s unclear whether the former has improved, but the game’s creative director, Eric Williams, claims that the team particularly boosted enemy variety in response to the aforementioned criticism of God of War 2018.

To that end, Williams says the team thinks players will be impressed by the general cast of NPCs, characters, and enemies, implying not only a lot of variety but also a lot of surprise. In an interview with YouTuber Kaptain Kuba, Eric Williams and God of War 2018 creative director Cory Barlog discuss this improvement in enemy variation and more.

Of course, increasing enemy variety may appear to be a minor enhancement, but there isn’t much room for improvement. Some have criticized God of War Ragnarok for appearing too much like its predecessor since its announcement, but this was unavoidable. Not only does the game need to operate on PS4 and run smoothly, but there isn’t a lot of chance to differentiate the sequel from its predecessor unless you flip the first game on its head.

God of War Ragnarok is being developed for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. There’s no indication on when the game will be released as of this writing, but it’s expected to be sometime this year. However, the lack of a 2022 release date has some PlayStation fans worried that the game would be released in 2023.
