Former CEO John Gibson’s Statement

The former CEO of Tripwire Interactive John Gibson recently issued his first statement since “stepping down” from the company, following boycotts sparked by his anti-abortion remark earlier this week.

Gibson encourages those who are “upset” about his departure to continue their support of Tripwire and their many amazing partners and wishes all of the partners [at Tripwire] the best success now and in the future.

He also says that Tripwire’s executive team has treated him with great care and dignity and that he knows what is coming next from Tripwire, and that the world will be blown away when it arrives.

Gibson was replaced as CEO two days ago (September 7) by the Vice President Alan Wilson, following a statement from Tripwire Interactive announcing his departure “effective immediately” and sharing that John Gibson’s comments are his own personal opinions and do not reflect those of Tripwire Interactive as a company and that his remarks went against the values of their team, partners, and a large portion of their broader community.

Gibson resigned after a controversial Supreme Court ruling on Texas Law SB8, a strict abortion law that prohibits all abortions without exception and allows citizens to sue medical providers who violate the law for a minimum of $10,000 (£7,240) in damages.

Following Gibson’s support for the bill, celebrities quickly distanced themselves from it and spoke out against it. Due to Gibson’s tweet, Shipwright Studios announced that all contracts with Tripwire would be cancelled “effective immediately,” and Twitch streamer Ben ‘CohhCarnage’ Cassell led a boycott against Tripwire from his platform of over 1.4 million Twitch subscribers.
