The Game Haus had the opportunity to speak with FaZe K1NG, the young phenom, about his beginnings and what it means to play Fortnite professionally at such a young age while representing his country.

FaZe K1NG is currently regarded as one of the best up-and-coming Fortnite players in the world. Argentina’s Thiago “K1NG” Lapp is a former “FaZe 5” champion. He has certainly made a name for himself in only a few years since joining the popular gaming organization in December of 2020.

As a young superstar in the game, K1NG has already earned 18 first-place finishes. K1NG, a player known for his quick thinking and construction, has recently caught the attention of many top Fortnite professionals as he continues to dominate the competition.

Since then, he’s amassed a sizable following, with 1.6 million Twitch followers, 1.1 million Youtube subscribers, 600k+ Instagram followers, 550k+ Twitter followers, and 340k+ TikTok followers. K1NG has already made a name for himself and is living up to his moniker.

How did you come up with the codename K1NG?

“When I made my Fortnite account, I used a different version of my name, Thiago. It used to be TG K1NG, but I removed the TG and now it’s just K1NG.”

What was your first video game?

“Counter-Strike 1.6 was my first love.”

Why did you choose Fortnite as your esport over any other?

“I was drawn to Fortnite because it is different from other games and is also played in third-person perspective. Another feature that caught my eye was the ability to build objects, which distinguishes it.”

What is it about competing in Fortnite that you enjoy the most?

“What I enjoy most about competing in Fortnite is that I can demonstrate my skill level to other players. I have the ability to compete with other players and always give it my all in order to win tournaments.”

What obstacles have you encountered that have prevented you from competing?

“I was ten years old when I first started playing Counter-Strike. The competition’s minimum age was much higher. But I was thirteen when I first started playing Fortnite, which made me ecstatic to be able to compete.”

Is it true that starting at such a young age influenced your playing style?

“I wanted to show that young people like myself could compete with older professional players.”

Who is the one person with whom you enjoy playing or who you enjoy playing with?

“One of my favorite people to play with is Tayson, a European player. SeeYun from Brazil is the person I’d most like to play with right now; he makes me laugh and I adore playing with him.”

Why did you want to join FaZe in the first place?

“Their clothing style appealed to me. It had always been one of my ambitions to join them after watching their Counter-Strike matches. When they announced this competition, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. It was one of my dreams to be a part of it, and I actually won, which was fantastic.”

Is there a sense of pride you’ve felt as an Argentine native for being able to represent your country?

“I am extremely proud to be an Argentine. I was born and raised in Argentina, and I will always be an Argentine. I am honored to represent my country in competitions and am overjoyed to be able to do so.”

What does the future hold for FaZe K1NG, such as a new game? Is there any more content?

“It’s not something that’s on my mind right now. I am unable to foresee the future. But I can say that I will continue to play Fortnite until a new game is released or something significant occurs. Then, like any other streamer, I want to create more content.”
