Dr Disrespect: Lawsuit ShakeOut According To An Esports Lawyer

Dr Disrespect recently discovered and understands why he was banned from the streaming platform Twitch and is now pursuing legal action against the platform, which, according to an attorney, could result in his reinstatement.

A Gaming, esports, and content creator attorney Roger Quiles, believes Dr Disrespect will be able to stream on Twitch again if he wins the lawsuit but that’s just one possible outcome in what should be a contentious legal case.

After Dr Disrespect was permanently banned from Twitch last year of 2020, one of the internet’s biggest mysteries began to unfold. A year later, the Dr Disrespect revealed that he had discovered why he had been suspended and that he intended to sue the streaming platform.

Quiles reacted to DrDisrespect’s decision to sue Twitch, claiming that the case could go in a number of different directions, but one thing is certain: the lawsuit will be very costly for all parties involved. The two parties can settle their differences in one of two ways: through the courts or through arbitration and that would almost certainly take years of disputes, arguments, and proceedings, whereas the latter would be much faster and keep many details private.

According to Quiles, if the lawsuit goes to arbitration, there’s a chance that they will never know [why Doc was banned] and they will continue to be in the dark about what really happened and add that he’s crossing his fingers that it can go to court, because if it does, all the records will be public.

It doesn’t matter how they go about it, though, because there are a few different ways this could go. While many people compare the situation to Phantoml0rd’s battle with Twitch, Quiles believes it could go in a completely different direction.

Quiles had a few theories about how the Twitch vs Doc lawsuit could end when asked about possible outcomes and there’s a world where DrDisrespect wins his case against Twitch, netting him a sizable settlement and allowing him to “potentially even be reinstated on the platform.”

Another scenario is that Dr Disrespect loses the lawsuit, but is still fired from Twitch after paying the company’s legal fees.

Finally, the two parties could meet in private to talk about a settlement. This would be the most private route, with all details and awards handled behind closed doors and It’s still far too early to predict what will happen in Dr Disrespect’s case against Twitch, but legal experts have already suggested several scenarios.
