Dopa Postpones Korean Military Service

Jeong Sang-gil, most commonly known online as Dopa is a retired League of Legends esports player and was previously a mid laner for Anarchy. He is a South Korean twitch streamer who has now gained over 433k followers on his channel.

Dopa recently posted a video on YouTube with the title ‘I got military exemption…’ announcing to his fans and supporters that he will be postponing his mandatory military service. Dopa’s 28th birthday is January 8th and many fans expected an imminent announcement surrounding his situation. In the video, he explains that he will be temporarily delaying his conscription in order to continue his streaming career.

According to Military service laws in South Korea, all males between the ages of 18 and 28 are required to carry out 20 months of compulsory military service. Therefore most streamers, professional players and other Korean personalities must take an extended break or retire completely to accommodate this. Regardless of Dopa having postponed the enlistment, it is unlikely that this could be much more than a matter of months and, as a result, it’s still to be expected that he will begin his enrolment within the next year.
