Disguised Toast Talks About React Meta

After returning from his Twitch ban, Jeremy “DisguisedToast” Wang expressed his thoughts on the streaming meta.

DisguisedToast complained about being banned from Twitch after streaming many episodes of various animes during a recent livestream. He explained that he had no problems until other well-known streamers joined in and began using the meta. He also mentioned how a Twitch streamer was watching Lord of the Rings. He stated, “But when Mizkif jumped on and Poki jumped on and Myth started watching Yu-Gi-Oh and some dude streamed Lord of the Rings, I’m like – Oh God no!”

After serving his suspension from Twitch, DisguisedToast has returned to streaming. He was simply one of many well-known creators that were banned off the purple platform for live streaming copyrighted content. He was banned just days after Imane “Pokimane” Anys, another streamer friend, was banned for watching Avatar: The Last Airbender.

DisguisedToast was one of the first creators to capitalize on the trend of copyrighted video being watched on Twitch. He streamed a variety of animes and watched them with his viewers. He explained to his viewers how he was able to do so without problems when few other Twitch creators were doing so.

Following in the footsteps of Pokimane and Matthew “Mizkif” Misrendino, there were more eyeballs on the situation, which eventually led to the former being called out for it and suspended. That’s exactly what happened when Twitch began enforcing DMCA guidelines against streamers. When DisguisedToast was the only one viewing animes on live, he was able to dominate the narrative around the meta. To his audience, he explained his thoughts as follows: “When it was just me watching anime, like I can kinda control the narrative.”

He elaborated on his previous words by mentioning walking a tight line, as well as knowing what those boundaries are and how he strives to stay within them. “If I feel like I go too far, I go too far. I can kinda pull back. When I feel like I’m not going too far enough, I can push.”

The LivestreamFail subreddit received a clip of the streamer discussing the situation. Toast referred to streamer “Rich Campbell” as “some dude watching Lord of the Rings,” and Redditors had a field day mocking him. The situation involving streamers being banned for watching licensed content has sparked a discussion about fair use in the community. Some are even afraid about a Twitch “Adpocalypse” akin to the YouTube “Adpocalypse.”
