Discord To Give Creators VIP Features

A variety of content creators will be invited to a new, premium beta, according to a blog post published by Discord recently. Though Discord has recently announced various new features to expand the platform’s capabilities as a community area, such as threads, this premium subscription will give the group messaging app monetization alternatives.

Discord will allow server operators to build multiple tiers at varying price points with their own incentives, similar to Twitch’s subscription system. Extra server channels, chats, and voice calls are examples of the different tiers. Discord Nitro will continue to be a personal subscription, with limited overlap with the new premium service in the works.

According to Discord’s blog post, “Premium Memberships introduce a streamlined and simple way to offer premium experiences, content, and interactions within your community. And with a quick and seamless process members can subscribe and immediately access benefits with payments and support all happening directly within Discord.”

Though Discord’s premium membership will eventually be available on live servers, the company has stated that it is still in the “slow rollout” phase. As Discord collects feedback on the product’s potential, this will remain a closed experiment until further notice. Discord did not specify which creators will be used to test this new server feature, nor did they say how many creators will use the premium experience.

The product has yet to be released by Discord; however, the company is eager to alter the premium subscription as feedback comes in.
