Bamboe Unexpected Passing

A community pays tribute to Alaan “Bamboe” Faraj, a streamer and former pro-player, by sharing memories and images of him.

On Friday, the Dota community was shocked to learn that legendary former pro-player and streamer Alaan “SexyBamboe” Faraj had died unexpectedly. The news was first shared on stream, followed by his brother’s confirmation a short time later.

Bamboe, a veteran of the Defense of the Ancients, was a member of one of the earliest mousesports Dota 2 lineups. Bamboe was a member of the Evil Geniuses, Geek Fam, and HellRaisers teams during his long professional career. Bamboe’s career highlights include a notable tenure with team Zephyr in the Korean Dota League, now defunct, and a participation at TI2 with mousesports. His professional career was defined by his determination to travel to any scene, any region, and take advantage of whatever chances arose.

However, Bamboe is best known for his time as a streamer. While Bamboe had expressed his intention to take a break from Dota 2 and stream earlier in 2021, his return was widely anticipated.

His streams alongside former Dota 2 pro Wehsing “SingSing” Yuen are particularly warmly remembered. Bamboe, SingSing, and Janne “Gorgc” Stefanovski were popularly regarded as the Dota 2 streamers’ holy trio. Which just adds to the sadness of the latter’s tribute to bamboe.

The Dota 2 community was eager to submit some of their snaps in response to Bamboe’s brother’s appeal for photos with or of the streamer. However, far more people expressed their emotions and memories. Condolences, memories, and well wishes flooded Twitter and other social media platforms throughout the weekend. In this difficult moment, our thoughts are with Alaan Faraj’s family.

Bamboe’s death has left a void in the Dota 2 community’s hearts. One of the game’s most prominent players and streamers, and an irreplaceable pillar of the Dota 2 community, has passed away far too soon.
