Asmongold Responds

Asmongold has reacted to claims that he is receiving “under the table” payments from FFXIV developers to play their game on Twitch, and that these “under the table” payments are why he constantly speaks out against WoW. 

Asmongold, Twitch’s resident MMO guru, has laughed aside rumors that he is secretly paid to play Final Fantasy XIV by Square Enix developers in order to increase the game’s user base. The allegations go something like this: Asmongold doesn’t like Final Fantasy XIV and is only playing the MMORPG because he’s being paid to do so, all “under the table,” in order to boost player numbers for the rising WoW rival. Asmongold has now responded to the rumors by denying them.

Asmongold laughed stating; “This is what people really think. Every time I play a new game, it actually has to be a shady backroom deal, that’s all it could be.”

On January 9th, Asmongold shot down the reports, saying that anyone who believes he accepts money to play Final Fantasy XIV over World of Warcraft is “literally stupid.” Asmongold then went on to say that he has “of course” accepted money to broadcast games in the past — his entry into Old School Runescape being a prominent example — but that all of his collaborations have been legal and above board. 

He stated; “Generally, I don’t really play a lot of sponsored games though. And, I’ve never, never had someone approach me to try and pay me under the table to play their game. That isn’t something that happens on Twitch guys, come on. People just believe whatever they want to believe, really.”

On his alt-account streams, the Twitch star hasn’t yet aired FFXIV in 2022, instead favoring the Dark Souls trilogy, New World, and even WoW.
