$150,000 Is Raised By Melee Community

Kashan “Chillindude” Khan, a former top Smash Bros. Melee player and commentator, suffered a stroke before June 3rd, according to his brother Burhan, who relayed the news via a GoFundMe set up for the 32-year-old yesterday.

Over the last 24 hours, the Melee community has rallied and contributed approximately $150,000 for Chillin’s medical care and recovery.

According to Burhan, Chillin hadn’t been feeling well for a couple of weeks due to “pain in his knee.” Chillin’s pain turned out to be an infection that traveled to his heart, causing a blockage and a medium-sized stroke. Burhan said; “[Chillin] is already on the path to recovery as his speech and movement have improved substantially in just a few days,”

Despite his progress, the long-time Team Liquid content writer is expected to require open-heart surgery next week due to infection-related damage. Furthermore, the streamer’s insurance will not cover the expenses, and he may be returned home, which is why the GoFundMe was set up in the first place. The announcement sent shockwaves through the Smash Bros. community, uniting thousands of fans and top players in support of the Smash Bros. legend. Hugo “HugS86” Gonzalez, a Twitch streamer and former top Smash Bros. Melee player, went live yesterday to help raise money for Chillin and to offer more information about the situation.

HugS86 said, “He’s recovering now, his speech and movement have improved, which is great. He was not able to speak when we saw him and he was unable to move the right side of his body below the neck. Because, as we suspect, based on when he stopped responding to anybody, he had likely been in that state for several days.”

HugS86 isn’t the only well-known Smash Bros. figure that has lent his support to Chillin. Many people, like Joseph “Mang0” Marquez, William “Leffen” Hjelte, and others, have shared his GoFundMe to assist him raise as much money as possible. At the end of his most recent YouTube video, Ludwig, who got his start in content creation as part of the Melee community, shared Chillin’s story with followers. At the time of writing, the “Support Chillin’s Stroke Recovery” GoFundMe had raised $148,790, with the goal of keeping ChillinDude in the hospital and paying for his surgery.
