YouTube Star Ethan Klein Slams Twitch Bans

Twitch’s decision to ban Hasan ‘HasanAbi’ Piker and two other streamers for using the word “cracker” on stream has been attacked by YouTube star Ethan Klein.

On December 13th, Hasan and two other Twitch streamers were banned for reportedly using the word “cracker” on stream. Since then, other broadcasters, such as Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel, have weighed in on the debate, defending Twitch and claiming that the use of the phrase was “trashy.”

Now, H3H3’s Ethan Klein has defended the ousted Twitch star while also criticizing the platform’s handling of the incident. On December 14, Ethan Klein tweeted his opinions on the ban. He explained; “Nobody was offended when I did white face because it’s a stupid joke with no real consequences & no history of oppression.”

In the tweet, Ethan posted a photo of himself in “white face,” which he took from a 2016 video titled “MTV Hates White Guys.” The YouTuber added, “Twitch banning “cracker” is giving oxygen to white identity politics & putting white grievances on equal footing with actual oppressed people.”

Ethan is concerned that Twitch’s decision to ban streamers for using the term “cracker” elevates the word to a status reserved for much harsher language.

Since the two debuted their podcast “Leftovers” together in September 2021, Hasan and Ethan have grown close, and the two will undoubtedly tackle Hasan’s suspension in the next episode of the show.
