xQc Doxx As Himself

After mistakenly doxxing himself and giving away his IP address, Twitch star Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel was forced to finish his June 13th live sooner than anticipated.

As he’s evolved into Twitch’s most popular broadcaster over the last few years, xQc has had to deal with a slew of security issues, both online and offline, as he’s dealt with fans violating his personal space. When it comes to dealing with online attacks, he’s been bombarded by stream snipers who want to destroy his games, but he’s also had to deal with viewers obtaining his IP address.

The latter has happened on a few occasions, and has prevented him from streaming at times due to DDoS attacks on his internet service. While some tech-savvy fans have previously leapt through hoops to obtain his IP address, he has also given it away by accident.

During his June 13 stream, Lengyel made another technical error, revealing his IP address to over 100,000 viewers, forcing him to go offline earlier than expected. This time, xQc attempted to access a gambling website in order to play some slots, but was unable to do so due to a connectivity issue. As soon as the famous ‘Error 502: Bad gateway’ warning flashed onscreen, so did his IP address, and Lengyel’s stream was shut off.

After going offline, xQc tweeted, “Stream offline for the day, leaked IP address by accident, you know the rest of the story. Gotta restart stuff and do a couple of homework anyways. I’ll be up and live early tomorrow. Thanks for hanging out.”

As previously stated, xQc has encountered this problem on a few occasions, and while it can generally be fixed quickly, it’s better to be cautious than sorry considering that your IP can be used to determine your real-life address. He’s optimistic that he’ll be able to work things out and be broadcasting again in a day’s time, and he’ll hopefully take some further steps this time.
