Twitch’s April Fools Joke

Twitch’s April Fools Joke

Twitch teased five new ‘upcoming’ categories for its platform on social media, including Pizza Time, Silent Reading, and more, as part of an elaborate April Fools’ Day joke.

For members of the gaming and streaming communities, April Fools’ Day is usually a memorable occasion. Not because it’s a reason to rejoice, but because it serves as a reminder to be skeptical of everything you see. Riot Games, for example, deceived League of Legends players with a ludicrous set of patch notes. Twitch got in on the act as well, announcing five new categories that were obviously a joke.

Pizza Time is the first category they teased, and it encompasses anything and anything linked to pizza. Making pizza, delivering pizza, eating pizza, and discussing which pizza toppings are the best are all part of the process. However, that isn’t all. The suggestions became more odd as time went on. Dressing up as a pizza, throwing pizza on the roof like Walter White from Breaking Bad, and even playing the 1994 computer game Pizza Tycoon are just a few examples.

Silent Reading is the second category, which includes streamers reading everything from biographies, novels, and manga to diary entries, fortune cookies, and even The 1997 Geo Metro Service Repair Manual discreetly.

The third category was a little more plausible. It’s called Character Creation, and it revolves around streamers inventing amusing characters in various games, which has become a social media craze.

Chores, Odd Jobs, and Errands, the fourth category, put a hilariously boring spin on typical IRL feeds. Instead of showcasing streamers chronicling their journeys, it focuses on them performing basic activities.

Finally, the fifth category, Literally Just Chatting, is exactly what it sounds like. The premise of the concept is that there will be no cameras, microphones, or live feed. Instead, there are simply folks in conversation who are having a wild time.

Many individuals were not fooled by Twitch’s April Fools’ Day scam. Given how ridiculous the categories were, it was apparent. Nonetheless, it provided a nice laugh, which is what the annual tradition is all about. Naturally, they’ve introduced some ‘different’ categories in the past, such as Animals, Aquariums, and Zoos, as well as Pools, Hot Tubs, and Beaches. Who knows what else they’ll come up with until April Fools’ Day comes around again.
