Twitch Founder Justin Regrets Selling The Streaming Platform

Justin Kan is an American internet entrepreneur and investor who co-founded the law-tech company Atrium where he served as CEO. He is the co-founder of live video platforms Justin.tv and Twitch, as well as the mobile social video application Socialcam. On February 7th, Justin Kan answered some interesting questions on tiktok that were posed to him.

One question was; “Do you regret selling [twitch]?” The Twitch platform was originally called Justin.tv before it changed to Twitch. Twitch has become one of the most popular streaming platforms on the internet, with as many as 15 million daily active users as of just one year ago. Regardless, Justin didn’t seem to mind as according to his answer which he gave on tiktok, when they sold the site back in 2014 for $970 million, he thought that it was an insane amount. Now he says that twitch is reportedly worth fifteen to twenty billion.

As he says, it proves that ‘things can always be bigger than you think’. He stated answering the question on tiktok; “A couple things to consider: One, it’s not clear that without the capital infusion from Amazon, Twitch would be anywhere near as successful as it is today, And two, having the win from selling Twitch helped me realize that having more, more, more and more money in the bank is not necessarily going to make me any happier.” In the end, he claimed that he did not regret selling twitch as everything is as it’s supposed to be.
