Twitch Defended

Pro streamer Shroud defended Twitch for not giving out the reason why earlier this summer they permanently banned DrDisRespect.

Someone has stepped in to defend Twitch over indefinitely banning DrDisRespect in what appears to be a conversation that may never go away. Most streamers came out in support of Doc, asking for the reasons behind the ban. However on his stream, famous streamer Shroud made comments highlighting why he thinks Twitch does not need to disclose anything about the ban.

Professional streamer DrDisRespect was suspended from Twitch almost overnight this past summer. There was no explanation given for this and the conversation between fans ranged from the suggestion that Doc was creating his own streaming service to the idea that the man was needed for national security issues. When viewers suggested that the ban was dumb and unreasonable, Shroud, a former Counter-Strike pro and a famous Twitch streamer, made some comments.

“People are saying that just because they don’t know. You can’t think a situation is stupid if you don’t have the information. That makes no sense at all.”

One viewer asked Shroud about the legality of showing Doc videos on Twitch now with DrDisRespect streaming on YouTube. Shroud responded; “I can watch a Doc video if I wanted to, I’m pretty sure anyway. I just can’t play with Doc and associate with him… live on stream. But if I watched a video and it was a compilation [with him in it], that’s fine.”

When asked about why Twitch won’t give a reason for the ban, Shroud then responded that if Twitch “gave info on any ban that they’ve done… they would have to go through and give info on every single person.”

Doc himself hinted at a financial explanation for his ban in a recent stream. He compared it to letting go of a high-ranking military member so that there are less costly cadets which could take his place, apparently referring to the elimination of Doc from Twitch in favor of cheaper streamers, probably including Shroud.

Ultimately, Doc has made his way back into the YouTube spotlight. He began to get his fans back, and it was pretty much going well. A map for Rogue Company was recently designed by DrDisRespect and the game now has a character skin in its image. However as his Discord and Call of Duty relationships have also suffered, his Twitch ban seems to have affected more than just his streaming.
