Nmplol Talks About ‘OG’s Of Twitch

Even though Twitch is a relatively new platform, many of its younger creators are not familiar with its origins or the process by which it developed into what it is today.

Nick Polom, who was hanging out with ExtraEmily today, advised the young aspiring streamer that she needs a history lesson. Since Emily apparently didn’t become familiar with Twitch until around 2020, she was unaware of many of the influential early outstanding streamers who helped shape Twitch. Polom ran through a list of producers and demanded that Twitch make a tutorial video for new users that they must watch before they can stream on the site. He said; “Out of respect for the OGs, every new streamer needs to watch a tutorial that talks about Reckful, Lirik, Summit, Chance, Forsen, all the OGs. They need to watch this video and learn about them.”

The history of personalities and the reasons behind why some things are the way they are are frequently unknown to newer Twitch viewers. Emily described a recent time she visited Forsen’s channel and how she thought it odd that he generally simply sat about and said nothing. 

Polom informed her, however, that Forsen’s ability to draw large audiences despite not always being particularly charismatic is due to the fact that he is such a powerful force on the platform. Polom continued by pointing out that many of the historically prominent artists have developed a mystique surrounding the ways in which they succeed, seemingly without trying. Polom also pointed out that some streamers have fundamentally altered the streaming market, with Ninja serving as the best example of this. 

He said; “Imagine all the people today who have no idea what Ninja did for this platform. Ninja brought us to the mainstream.”

It doesn’t seem that long ago to the trained Twitch viewer when Ninja turned the platform on its head by breaking viewership records and luring mainstream superstars to his channel. But he had his breakthrough year more than three years prior to 2018. Teenagers who are just becoming familiar with online culture might not even be aware of the existence of the platform Mixer, let alone understand the significance of Ninja’s defection from Twitch and its effects on the future of broadcasting.

It might be a stretch to oblige streamers to become familiar with the greats of streaming, but it would be in the best interests of up-and-comers to do so.
