Lynching Comment Sparks Backlash

YouTuber Clay commonly known online as simply Dream is a popular YouTuber and Among Us player. He was a Minecraft player that turned into an Among Us player. He has risen in popularity because of his Minecraft playthroughs and with his Among Us videos collaborating with his friends.

He recently became controversial, as a clip of him has now gone viral online. In the clip, it shows that he was commenting that players who cheat at Minecraft should be ‘lynched’. On twitter, a twitter user posted the clip and further explained as to why Dream’s use of the word ‘lynched’ was hurtful. The user explained that the word lynching is not the right one to use ever, even when joking, because the word itself carries a lot of weight in the Black community. The user followed up by saying that they only intended to hold him accountable and they clarified that they did not believe that Dream was a racist because of this but merely uneducated about the use of the word.

Dream soon responded to the thread apologizing stating; “Yeah, I realized after I said it that it wasn’t at all the right word for me to use, and I regretted it instantly. I was thinking of the popular game ‘Town of Salem’ when I said it. Definitely not okay though, and I apologize for that. Out of my vocabulary.”
