DMCA Claims for In-Game Sounds

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act,(DMCA) is a copyright law that implements two 1996 treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization. It criminalizes production and dissemination of technology, devices, or services intended to circumvent measures that control access to copyrighted works. It has led to several streamers having to erase outdated streams. Twitch’s developers have started investigating a new set of problems . Numerous tweeted sound effects like bird and insect noises have left cached streams muted.

Infuriating as this is, this flood of insane examples comes as Twitch is urging users to “mute in-game sound” to avert the DMCA crack down that is taking place. Platform producers are desperately attempting to rescue fragments from their entire back catalog when a massive influx in DMCA alerts from music companies means that entire streams of old streams and clips will be removed. Relevant support and contact from Twitch is restricted, to say the least, by requiring users to uninstall years of work in bulk. Twitch admitted to this and apologised for it. As per the snapshots, the sound effects have already been reported because they are connected to the stock sound resources.
