Awesome Games Done Quick Raises 3.4 Million Dollars

With each version of the speedrunning charity event, Awesome Games Done Quick continues to grow. As part of AGDQ 2022, which ended on Jan. 16, speedrunners and viewers from around the world helped raise a record-breaking $3,416,729 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

Not only did the community collect more than $2.4 million in less than 24 hours to make this the most money ever raised at a single Games Done Quick event, surpassing AGDQ 2020’s $3,164,002 total.

AGDQ 2022 offered everything fans requested, from blindfolded runs to game-breaking performances. The speedrunning community put on more than 150 hours of different runs, races, and skits for charity.

GDQ averaged roughly 73,000 views every day from Jan. 9 to 16, peaking at 113,011 during Mitchriz’s blindfolded Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice run. According to TwitchTracker, GDQ was watched for 11.6 million hours.

Overall, this is a fantastic start to the year for GDQ. Summer Games Done Quick raised nearly $2.9 million for Doctors Without Borders in July, surpassing a great performance in 2021, when AGDQ 2021 raised over $2.7 million for Prevent Cancer and AGDQ 2021 raised over $2.7 million for Prevent Cancer.

Following the publication of the final total, GDQ director Sumichu affirmed that the team is still contemplating a return to in-person events in the future, but that safety is still a top priority for the team.

Finally, the GDQ team made sure that fans could access Pokémon speedrunner Shenanagans’s emotional apologies after he brazenly insulted Bulbasaur during the Pokémon Crystal Key Item Randomizer. Visit the event’s official website to give to GDQ and assist the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and all of the VODs are available on the GDQ YouTube channel.
